ToughSteel Event

ToughSteel: Solving industrial problems by considering the fracture toughness of the metallic sheet

ToughSteel is a European project funded under the frame of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) programme. The main aim of ToughSteel is the dissemination and valorisation of fracture toughness as a material property to rationalise crack-related problems in Advanced High Strength Steels.

This webinar aims to present the current methodologies to measure fracture toughness in thin sheet with a focus on the Essential Work of Fracture (EWF) paying particular attention to an industrial test case in which a correlation between physical and virtual stamping is carried out.

List of event topics:

  • Introduction to fracture toughness methodology.
  • Presentation of an industrial case study where fracture toughness measurements has been used to solve cracking related issues in cold-formed components.
  • First results of new virtual stamping simulation considering the EWF failure criteria.
