Faurecia, one of the companies benefited from ToughSteel’s Open Call, presented the results of their case study in the technical workshop “Measurements in situ and under operating conditions” organised by the western section of the French Society of Metallurgy and Materials (SF2M) on April 6th at the Technology Institute of the University of Nantes in Saint-Nazaire (France).
The presentation was held by Valérie Wombee, Scientific expert at Faurecia, and was entitled “Experimental measurements of the sensitivity to fracture of two dual phase steels – Use of the EWF methodology”.

During her speech, Valérie Wombee introduced the results of a fracture toughness assessment carried out with two dual-phase steels. The analysis, carried out by ToughSteel coordinator Eurecat, followed the Essential Work of Fracture methodology as an alternative to Hole Expansion Test methods.
Together with Forvia Faurecia with five other companies in the metal industry benefited from the ToughSteel Open Call. Forvia Faurecia received access to an innovative fracture toughness characterisation service to predict cracking and prevent production losses, tackling challenges in formability and part quality assessment.
The 2023 edition of the SF2M-West thematic day brought together actors around studies of materials under mechanical, thermal, thermomechanical, electrical, chemical or electrochemical loads. During the event, manufacturers presented the current issues they are facing and discussed solutions through existing or innovative approaches.
